The source of these collages and drawings is detritus; materials to be recycled. This is tricky to admit as the work itself might then be viewed in the same way.  I hope not. When I made this series, I was at a point in my sculpture when nothing was happening – as all artists know this is a terrible moment – you think you will never make anything again, you eat too much, take naps and are angry all the time. As I was getting ready to chuck the cardboard from one of my husband’s freshly laundered shirts (it was shoved into a plastic bag), I took another look and randomly shoved some more scraps in:  voila! Click! Whew! Eureka! Saved, at least for the duration of the series. Revisiting the act of drawing, and of literally cutting and pasting directly onto the surface of the paper was liberating and provided a respite from my usual lengthy process of fabrication and deliberation.
