Celeste Morton

My work is generally large abstract paintings that use color, texture, composition, and referential symbols to convey meaning and mood. I also include collage and found objects because these mediums work to create multiple layers of meaning and aesthetic possibilities. One inspiration for my artwork is psychoanalysis, which explores what is beneath the surface and exists in deeper realms of the human psyche. I think of my artwork this way, there are multiple layers of images that work to convey the complexities of human thought and emotion. I am also inspired by film. I translate mis-en-scene, style and composition of frames as a way to explore a mood or idea.
