Jackie Shatz

Jacqueline Shatz creates sculptures that achieve an elemental interaction between abstraction, still-life, landscapes, and the decorative arts, and are an amalgam of perceptions garnered from a wide range of art and culture. Her work acknowledges, and undermines, time-honored sculptural practices through the application of two-dimensional processes to three-dimensional relationships in space. The collage materials of which they are constructed have gone thru a similar process of extraction and recombination and retain the associations of the art and materials from which they are made; they represent in concrete form the process of digestion of art history and the structuring of it into a new art object with a history of it's own.
